We took our car two weeks ago, 2/19, at opening at 9:30 am for a full service and MOT. We were told that our shocks, front brake pads, and suspensions needed to be changed, and told the price- which we accepted. We were told to collect our car at closing at 6 pm, and then were told at 5:45 pm that it would actually be done at 6:30 pm— difficult as we were already en route. We occupied ourselves at a cafe nearby until they closed, and arrived at 6:25 pm, at which point we proceeded to wait until past 7:30 pm before our far was even taken off the rack. The staff seemed confused, and was observed chatting most of this time, not working on our car at any point but insisting we stay to collect it then and there. We asked whether we needed to come back the next day, and were told no. We had told the garage from the beginning that we had a long and very important trip to Essex the day after, which is why we needed our car done and safe to drive. On our way to Essex the next day, the car drove terribly— the wheels dragged the car to the left and to the right as if it were a wild horse trying to be tamed, and every invisible bump in the street felt like riding a bicycle down the Spanish Steps. When we tried to turn the steering wheel to get away from a truck that was veering in the heavy rain, the steering wheel turned emptily— I have never experienced a scarier situation. The situation was so bad that we wound up having to pull over to the side of the North Circular and call AA, unable to even get off the road or to get home. AA got us to an emergency mechanic, who told us that not only were the wheels pointed severely into each other (imagine the shape of an A), causing the car to drag to the right and the left without control, but that the steering wheel had been unscrewed and not screwed back in, which is why it didn’t have control over the wheels. Neither AA nor the mechanic could believe that a garage would have not only made these grave errors, but charged for it and okay’d it to be driven off the lot ! Both AA and the emergency garage emphasised that we could have died, and were shocked that we had even been able to drive those few miles without an accident, as the garage’s gross malpractice rendered the car undrivable. Because of the gross error and malpractice with the wheels, one of our new Michelin tyres is now damaged to the point of being unusable. This was not picked up on the MOT the night before, so we have confirmation it wasn’t an issue beforehand, but was also confirmed as being due to the garage’s negligence. We gave the garage the benefit of the doubt, and the opportunity to fix their mistakes, calling them from the road and again from the emergency garage to let them know what had been found, to which they explained that they know very little about car mechanics and operate more on the car selling/buying side in northwest London, and asked for the car to be returned so they could fix their work. We brought the car back to them, only to be told that they actually “missed” multiple items on the MOT (this is either fraud, or gross negligence— either way, unacceptable!) and that we would need to shell out another £600 for wheel bolts that they didn’t “notice” were bad, despite having checked them off on the full service as present and in good condition. They also requested a further £1000+ for other items they claimed they “missed” on the service! … a desperate attempt for them to recoup even more money from us for items that we now fear they have damaged themselves. These guys are unsafe, incompetent, fraudulent, and a menace to the Ealing and Hanwell community. Ekaterina Kormilitsyna2024-03-13 Loved the services provided.
